Most homes have both Analogue and digital clocks.
Analogue clocks are those that have moving hands and digital clocks usually just have electronic numbers.
Digital clocks have two sections separated by a : The hours are displayed on the left of the : The minutes are displayed on the right of the :
Example 4:30 is 4 hours and 30 minutes.
On an analogue clock there are normally 3 hands that move clockwise around the face.
The smallest hand is the ‘hour’ hand and it points to the o’clock numbers. The larger hand is the ‘minute’ hand and it points to the minutes numbers round the clock. The largest and fastest moving hand is the ‘second’ hand. (we don’t show the second hand in this program)
The hour hand does 2 revolutions each day, the first time it goes around is called AM and the second time it goes around is called PM.
Some common facts: There are 60 seconds in every minute There are 60 minutes in every hour There are 24 hours in every day, 12 Hours for AM and 12 hours for PM
How to Read Time
When the minute hand is pointing to the 12 (top) position it is an o’clock time. The o’clock number is the number that the hour hand is pointing to.
When the minute hand is pointing to the 6 (bottom) position it is a half past o’clock time. The o’clock number is the number that the hour hand has just gone past.
We don’t show the minute numbers on the clock face so remember that there are 60 minutes around the face of the clock. The minute hand is now pointing to 30 minutes.
Educational software Instruction :1. From the time shown on the digital clock, change the hands on the analogue clock by clicking on the rotate buttons.
2. When you have the hands in the correct position click the ‘OK’ button.
