Division is sharing a number into equal groups. However, sometimes you will not end up with even groups and there will be a remainder.
The symbol for division is ÷
Let’s look at an example: 13 ÷ 3
The diagram illustrates 13 stars grouped into colours.
The problem is asking you to work out, how many groups of 3 can be made from 13.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * In the illustration above you can see that there are 4 columns or groups, each with 3 stars. So 13 is made up of 4 groups of 3 and 1 left over.
