Educational software theory used:Convert Fractions To Decimals
To convert fractions to decimals we need to find an equivalent fraction that has 10, 100 or other base 10 multiple as its denominator.
We can then place the numerator into the appropriate ‘Unit’ column when we write out the decimal.
For example 2/5 We need to change this to 10ths by using equivalent fractions.
2/5 = 4/10 We now have a fraction called ‘Tenths’, these are the same as the ‘Tenths’ units in our place values.
We can now place the 4 in the corresponding ‘Tenths’ units place.
Ones . Tenths Hundredths 0. 4
So 2/5 = 0.4
