Aim/Questions : Work out the percentage monetary amount. Work out the Percentage amount of a 2 decimal number.

If you are asked to work out a percentage of an amount, it is the same as finding a fraction of an amount.

We need to understand that a percentage amount is a fraction with a denominator of 100.

 

For example.

When we say 25% this is the same as the fraction 25/100

 

So if we need to work out 25% of $40, we can write this as a fraction sum

 

25% of $40 =

25/100 of $40 =

 

We can simplify the fraction 25/100 to 1/4

So our original sum is the same as 1/4 of $40 = $10
